Louisiana Downs Announces Its 2023 Quarter Horse Stakes Schedule, Stall Applications Due November 30

BOSSIER CITY, LA—NOVEMBER 2, 2022—The 2023 Quarter Horse live racing season will get underway at Louisiana Downs on Thursday, January 5. The 46-day meet will conclude on Saturday, April 1. Live racing will be conducted Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Post time will be 1:35 p.m. (Central).
Stall applications are due by Wednesday, November 30 and the barn area will open on Saturday, December 10. Nomination forms for the Maiden Classic and Louisiana Downs Starter Series are available at the Louisiana Downs racing office or by contacting Matt Crawford at 318-741-2511 or assistant racing secretary Tammy Peck at 318-752-6453.
The full stakes schedule includes the $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2), the $50,000-added Mardi Gras Derby and the $75,000-added Louisiana Downs Futurity(G3). The finals will take place on Saturday, March 25 with a new feature, the $50,000 Mardi Gras Oaks, added to that date as well.
Matt Crawford is the racing secretary for the Bossier City racetrack and announced that a new starter series has been added to the 2023 live meet. The $15,000-added Louisiana Downs Starter Series for 3-year-olds and upward will be contested on Saturday April 1 at 110 yards with trials set for March 18.
“We look forward to an excellent Quarter Horse season and are pleased to offer several new stakes for the 2023 meet,” said Crawford. “The Mardi Gras Oaks will be an excellent addition to our March 25th card in which we will run the finals of the Mardi Gras Futurity and Louisiana Downs Futurity as well as the Mardi Gras Derby.”
In addition, the $20,000-added Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic for 3 year-olds and up at 350 yards will take place on Friday, March 24 with trials on Thursday, March 10. The race will be restricted to maidens as of the first payment deadline of January 5, 2023.

Dates have also been approved for the 2023 Louisiana Downs Thoroughbred live racing season. The 84-day meet will begin on Saturday, May 6 and conclude on September 26.
