OPELOUSAS, LA–NOVEMBER 29, 2023–The LQHBA Louisiana Million (RG1) will highlight an exceptional stakes-filled card on Saturday, December 16 at Evangeline Downs. The winning connections will be thrilled, as will seven Louisiana students when the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) awards a total of $25,000 in scholarships.
High school graduates and seniors graduating in 2024 wishing to attend a higher education institution are eligible. A registration table will be located on the main level of the racetrack from 4:30–6:30 pm on December 16. Students must be present for the drawing of two (2) $5,000 scholarships and six (6) additional $2,500 scholarships.
Bruce Salard, LQHBA executive director, is pleased that the association will offer a record $25,000 on the final major championship night for Louisiana-bred Quarter Horses. Since 2001, the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) scholarship program has provided financial aid for students. The scholarship program is supported strongly by the LQHBA, its board members and many generous sponsors. Over $800,000 has been earmarked for this program since its inception.
"The LQHBA Scholarship Fund is an important program for our association,” said Salard. “There is a rich tradition of family involvement in Louisiana Quarter Horse breeding and racing. To see young people enjoy a night of the best racing in the country and support their goals of furthering their education is extremely rewarding.”
